Article summary

Reputable software packages should always have a license, be it open source or private licensed software. The License scan detects what, if any, licenses exist for the project. Ion Channel will scan the files within a project for text related to known licenses to obtain licensing information.

If only one license is determined for the project, the license name will be displayed on the tile. If more than one license is determined to exist, the count of total licenses will be displayed on the tile. Selecting the tile will present a complete list of all detected licenses.

Governance:

The Has License rule governs the pass/fail status of the License scan results. When this rule is enabled in the governing ruleset, the analysis will only pass if a license is found to exist for the project.

Tile Statuses:

Passing: A license exists for the project, and the governing ruleset requires a license.

Failing: A license does not exist for the project and the governing ruleset requires a license.

Not Evaluated: The governing ruleset does not contain a rule requiring a license.

Error: An error occurred during the scan or analysis. Selecting the tile will provide information on the cause of the error.
